Keep the map in the decision, not just in the background
A global platform reference for reviewing location selection: what the map preserves, what the content panel changes, and what to test between them.

Android for Cars Map + Content design guidance, updated 30 July 2025. A platform reference, not a China vehicle case.

What the template provides
Android's Map + Content guidance describes a map combined with supported List, Grid, Pane or Message content. It recommends corresponding map markers for listed locations and highlighting a relevant route when a user makes a selection. These are platform design recommendations, not evidence of measured driving performance. [1]
The example above illustrates the composition. It does not show the complete journey from a charger search to a confirmed destination, so it cannot establish how selection or back navigation behaves in an installed app.
Review the decision the user is making
Our interpretation is that location selection requires both an attribute comparison and a spatial comparison. A list can describe an option; the map can help explain where it is. A review should ask whether both refer to the same selection after filtering, panning or returning from details.
Keeping a map visible is not sufficient. If the content selection moves while the map highlight remains behind, the layout can look stable while its meaning changes. That is a proposed failure scenario for testing, not a defect reported in Google's example.
Turn the pattern into acceptance criteria
For engineering discussion, name the selected location and the point at which a route becomes committed. Avoid treating a visual highlight as proof of a completed navigation request. Loading, unavailable results and cancellation should each have a defined outcome.
For a Chinese cockpit benchmark, use this as a reference question rather than a universal UI prescription. A native navigation product may use a different component model. Compare whether a driver can make and recover a location decision, then document the platform constraints that explain the difference.
Bring these questions to the review
- Product
- Is the task browsing an area, comparing places or committing to a destination?
- UX / HMI
- Do the map highlight and the content panel still agree after going back?
- Engineering
- Which state represents the selected place, and which represents a committed route?
- Validation
- What happens when a selected result disappears during a refresh?
